Deans’

Portraits

HKUMed’s evolution from a small medical college to our current position among the world’s top medical schools and a leader in research would not have been possible without excellent leadership.

To celebrate the huge contributions made by our current and former Deans of Medicine, a collection of their portraits was commissioned by Mr Anthony Cheung and gifted to the Faculty to mark our 135th anniversary. This is the first such celebration of the Faculty leadership on campus.

The 32 portraits are displayed on the grand sweeping staircase in the new Faculty Administration Wing. The position of the gallery allows the viewer to take in the portraits from multiple vantage points.

Award-winning figurative artist Brendan Fitzpatrick was commissioned to capture the spirit of our Deans as well as important aspects of our history through oil painting. Fitzpatrick attended Central Saint Martins followed by the Royal Drawing School. He later apprenticed at the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, which focuses on the sight-size technique of painting the subject true to size that was deployed by the Old Masters.
