We proudly begin our 135th anniversary year ranked among the top 20 medical schools globally, a feat that reminds us to pause and recognise the collective efforts that brought us to this juncture.

This momentous anniversary will be marked with events and exhibitions to celebrate our achievements as well as acknowledge those who expertly guided the Faculty through to the current day.

In particular, I look forward to hosting the Dean’s 135th Anniversary Lectures over the coming year, inviting four global and national leaders in their fields to deliver inspiring talks.

In recognition of the immense contributions from our community near and far, many of these activities will be made available online for those who are no longer physically close to HKUMed to take part.

While we reflect on our past, we have our sights firmly fixed on the future. The past 20 year has seen the Faculty grow leaps and bounds, doubling both our undergraduate intake and the number of programmes on offer, yet the square footage afforded to us has remained almost constant.

Fortunately, this is soon set to be a matter of the past. We have undertaken a major expansion to ensure we possess the capacity to train sufficient healthcare professionals to remain ahead of Hong Kong’s evolving needs. In tandem, our international impact is set to grow as we build new facilities and laboratories to provide our world-leading researchers with the latest technologies.
